Claire Bostrom, ACSW

Hi, I'm Claire, a somatic psychotherapist practicing primarily in-person in San Francisco and online. I help people working through complex trauma, burnout, major life transitions, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, crises of meaning, and spiritual inquiry.

I believe that the aspects of ourselves we often judge as flaws or problems are much more than that: they are wounded parts of us longing to be heard and understood, and they may ultimately hold the keys to our healing and freedom. This is where somatic work can be so powerful: it helps bring unconscious patterns into conscious awareness through the language of the body. The body becomes the doorway between what we know intellectually and what we have not yet been able to fully feel, name, or integrate.

A belief like “I have to handle everything alone” might show up as tension, guardedness, or difficulty receiving support. By noticing these patterns in the safety of the therapy relationship, we can begin to understand how they formed, how they protected you, and how we might help transform this stuck energy into true vitality.

My work is grounded in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, while also drawing from EMDR, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, transpersonal psychology, and Eastern nondual traditions.

Therapeutic Approaches

Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy

A body-oriented approach to trauma that works with the nervous system's capacity to heal, releasing stored survival energy without requiring re-telling of traumatic events.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Combining the neuroplasticity benefits of low-dose ketamine with skilled psychotherapy to access deeper layers of healing and shift long-held patterns.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Working with the internal system of parts to understand protective strategies, unburden wounded parts, and restore access to core Self energy.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. An evidence-based approach for processing traumatic memories and reducing their emotional charge.

“Claire has played a significant role in helping me overcome challenges related to work, anxiety, and family matters. I had previously worked with several therapists in an effort to address these issues...Claire was different—she established a genuine and trusting relationship with me in a remarkably short amount of time.

Her approach is both compassionate and practical. She consistently offered thoughtful insights and actionable strategies that made a real difference in managing my personal and professional challenges.

What sets Claire apart is her dedication beyond our sessions—she often took the time to research and explore alternative solutions tailored to my specific needs...it’s Claire’s deep sense of ethics and sincere desire to help others that truly stand out. Her commitment to her clients’ well-being is not just part of her job—it’s part of who she is. That authenticity is what makes her so effective and sets her apart from others in the field. ” — S.K.
