Insurance & Payment

✓ We are out-of-network providers
✓ Superbills provided for insurance reimbursement
✓ Sliding scale spots may be available. Just ask!
✓ HSA / FSA cards accepted

We don’t believe cost should prevent anyone from getting the support they need. Ask about sliding scale options during your consultation.

Common questions about cost

Why don’t you take insurance?
We are out-of-network providers, which allows us to provide the quality and length of care we believe in, without the limitations insurance companies often impose.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a receipt we provide after each session that includes all the information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim.
Do you offer sliding scale?
Yes. We reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots across the collective. If cost is a barrier, raise it during your consultation.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Therapy is an eligible expense for both Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts. We accept HSA/FSA cards as payment.
How do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?
Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask: “Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?” We’re happy to help you figure this out during your consultation.
What is the Good Faith Estimate?
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before starting therapy. We provide this to all new clients with no surprises.

Other questions

Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. We offer both in-person sessions in San Francisco and telehealth sessions for anyone located in California. Most services are available online, with the exception of ketamine-assisted therapy.
How long does therapy typically last?
It depends on what you’re working on. Some concerns have a structured protocol. For most other work, we recommend starting weekly and reassessing as you go.
What if I’m not sure which therapist is right for me?
That’s what the free consultation is for. Tell us about what’s bringing you in, and we’ll recommend someone based on specialty, approach, and fit.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee.
